The Alleged Plot to Kill
As Hannah’s health deteriorated throughout 2021 and into early 2022, Mann reportedly presented himself as a concerned husband, giving her vitamins and pills he claimed would help strengthen her immune system. In reality, prosecutors later revealed, those pills had been laced with lead.
Investigators discovered that Mann had access to lead through his clinic renovations. A contractor later testified that leftover lead materials from an X-ray room installation had been left in Mann’s possession. That same material, prosecutors argued, was used to create the toxic pills that caused Hannah’s extended hospitalization in early 2022.
Mann’s financial motives also became central to the case. Court records revealed he held five life insurance policies on his wife totaling $1.3 million, and had applied for two more worth $1.5 million—both of which were denied. Prosecutors argued that Mann intended to profit from Hannah’s death while attempting to mask his involvement through a slow, methodical poisoning campaign.
Arrest and Trial
Mann was arrested in September 2022 following an investigation by Hartselle Police. He initially cooperated, turning over the supplements Hannah had been taking. But the investigation took an unusual turn when Mann claimed he had also ingested lead and even presented at a hospital stating he had found a substance in his own colon. Investigators, however, suspected this was a staged effort to deflect blame and create a false narrative of mutual poisoning.
In June 2025, Mann stood trial in Morgan County on charges of attempted murder. The jury heard damning evidence, including expert medical testimony, X-rays showing lead shavings in Hannah’s colon, and testimony about the life insurance policies. He was found guilty and later sentenced to life in prison in August 2025.
Where Is Brian Mann Now?
Brian Thomas Mann is currently serving a life sentence in an Alabama state prison after being convicted of attempted murder. His sentencing followed a failed motion for acquittal or a new trial, in which his defense argued that the prosecution had not definitively proven he was the source of the poisoning. The court rejected those arguments.
Mann filed a notice of appeal and sought release on bond while his appeal was pending. That request was also denied. The court ruled that the seriousness of the crime, combined with the premeditation and financial motive, warranted his continued incarceration during the appeal process.
Today, Mann remains behind bars, with no parole currently granted. He has not given further public statements since his conviction, and his appeal remains under review.
