Who Was Christy Giles & What Happened to Her? 2026 Update & Profile

Christy Lee Giles was a 24-year-old model, aspiring actress, and social media personality whose tragic death in November 2021 became the center of a major Los Angeles murder investigation. Her case received national attention after evidence revealed that she and her friend, Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, had been drugged and abandoned outside separate hospitals by men who failed to seek emergency assistance.
Nearly four years later, the investigation led to the conviction of David Brian Pearce for first-degree murder and multiple sexual assault charges. For Christy’s family, the guilty verdict represented the culmination of a long fight to prove that her death was not an accidental overdose but a homicide.

Early Life and Career
Christy Giles was born in Alabama in 1997 and grew up with a passion for athletics and modeling. During her teenage years, she competed in beauty pageants and was runner-up in the Miss Alabama Teen USA competition. She signed with the prestigious Wilhelmina modeling agency while still a teenager and later worked with several other modeling agencies as her career expanded.
Friends and family described her as ambitious, energetic, and determined to build a successful career in the entertainment and fashion industries. She eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where she pursued modeling, acting, and content creation opportunities. In September 2019, she married artist and visual effects editor Jan Cilliers, and the couple began building a life together in Southern California.
The Night of November 12, 2021
On November 12, 2021, Christy went out in Los Angeles with her close friend Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, a 26-year-old architect and interior designer who had recently moved from Mexico to pursue her own career goals. The women visited several nightlife venues before attending a warehouse party.
During the evening, they met David Brian Pearce and his associates. Evidence later showed that Christy and Hilda accompanied the men to Pearce’s apartment. At some point after arriving, Christy reportedly sent messages indicating she wanted to leave. Prosecutors later argued that the women were drugged while inside the apartment.
Found Outside a Hospital
In the early morning hours of November 13, surveillance cameras captured masked men arriving at Southern California Hospital in Culver City. They left Christy unconscious outside the emergency room entrance and drove away without identifying themselves or informing medical staff what had happened.
Christy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Approximately two hours later, Hilda was left outside a second hospital in West Los Angeles. She was still alive but critically ill. Doctors attempted to save her, but she remained on life support for days before her family made the decision to remove life support shortly before her 27th birthday.
Cause of Death
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ultimately ruled Christy’s death a homicide. Toxicology testing revealed a mixture of cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine, and gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a drug commonly associated with drug-facilitated sexual assaults.
Investigators concluded that Christy had been given drugs and left without medical assistance when she became unresponsive. Prosecutors argued that prompt emergency intervention might have saved her life. Instead, those responsible chose to abandon her outside a hospital and leave before anyone could question them.
The Investigation and Search for Justice
Christy’s husband, Jan Cilliers, became one of the most vocal advocates for justice in the case. He worked tirelessly to reconstruct her final hours and push investigators to continue pursuing leads. Christy’s parents, Dusty and Leslie Giles, also played a major role in keeping public attention focused on the investigation.
As detectives investigated the deaths, they uncovered allegations from numerous women who claimed David Pearce had drugged and sexually assaulted them over many years. These accounts revealed a pattern that prosecutors argued matched what happened to Christy and Hilda. The growing number of survivors who came forward helped strengthen the case against Pearce. (
The Trial and Verdict
After years of investigation and court proceedings, a Los Angeles jury found David Brian Pearce guilty on February 4, 2025, of first-degree murder in the deaths of Christy Giles and Hilda Cabrales-Arzola. Jurors also convicted him of multiple sexual assault offenses involving seven other women.
In October 2025, Pearce received a sentence of 146 years to life in prison. The judge described him as a manipulator and predator whose crimes caused immeasurable harm. The sentence effectively ensures he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Christy Giles’ Legacy
Today, Christy Giles is remembered not only as a model and aspiring actress but also as a young woman whose case exposed a dangerous predator. Her family has continued to speak publicly about the importance of seeking justice for victims of drug-facilitated crimes and sexual violence.
Although her life was cut short at just 24 years old, Christy’s story helped uncover years of criminal conduct and encouraged other survivors to come forward. The convictions that followed stand as a testament to the determination of her family, investigators, prosecutors, and the women who refused to remain silent.
